 Because everything around us is comprised of vibration, the quality of that vibration is essential for everything to run smoothly. The journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step, the old Asian proverb says. Another one offers a blessing that hopes that your path will be free of tigers. Wonderful. In Shangri La there is no sickness. People who arrive there become well and those that are there and well don't age for a hundred years. Why? The air is rarefied and not just the atmosphere. The air or attitude is rarefied as well. The idea of a pristine place where people are not prone to common everyday disturbances is so lofty we can hardly think it could be real, but one thing is for sure, there is no way we can achieve even a close proximity if we are focused on dread and bringing dread and fear into every conversation that we have.

In the 1920's, painter and archeological explorer Nicholas Roerche went out in search of Shambhala, that mythical realm also referred to as Shangri La. He made an extensive and expensive journey to find the place that has remained hidden to the outside world. He wrote a beautifully illustrated book about his discoveries and the challenges of navigating through the most difficult terrain that anyone could imagine in farthest remote and unforgiving areas in the mountainous regions above and surrounding Tibet.

Just like our movie hero, Robert Conway in Lost Horizon, the trek to Shangri La can seem so distant that we can't even see the horizon, or the shard of light at the end of the tunnel. Each step can be difficult against fierce winds of doubt, unstable footing towards a goal steeped in mist so thick we can't see our success; and the climate can be frighteningly cold. Colder than those calls one makes in hopes of gaining a sale.

There is much talk about the benefits of meditation these days and the many means by which to practice it.  However, journeying through meditation without a map can be very difficult, especially when you are already on overload from multi-tasking, overlong work hours and shortened staff.  Add to that, arriving home late and mustering up the stamina to get dinner ready, start a load of wash, return phone calls and sort through the mail, after dinner clean up, housework and so on.

Your lunch time is a time of renewal and refreshment.  It's meant not only to nourish your body, but to nourish your inner spirit as well.  Whether you've got one hour or only a half-hour, that time should be spent truly enjoying your meal.  The Yogi's in India will not allow anyone to cook for them who is angry or who has a sour disposition because the very vibrations of the cook, conjoined with the elements of fire, water and metal act as conduits for those negative emotional vibrations, which then become an essence of the food they eat.
